Reviews about New Star Motel

  • March 25, 2019, by Janice Reader
I was driving with my girlfriend to the Coachella Music and Art Festival last summer. There were no rooms available anywhere nearby. It seemed like the entire southland was booked. I mean booked! Even far away places were gouging people. So we kept driving around. Tired, we drove to Moreno Valley just outside the desert cities. This is a well kept, small motel on the historic 395 road with nostalgia to the 1950s. It reminded me of a survivor of route 66 actually, if you ever travelled across country. I thought the place was beautiful and part of Americana. The architecture and windows were vintage as were the colors of the place. So we decided to check it out. The room was clean and modern. So, I had no quorums in staying there. The carpet in my room was fancy like you find at the Sheraton and the bed was more of what you would expect in a home. The bed was comfortable. I had my own parking spot in a carport and free coffee in my room every morning. I asked for extra towels and the WIFI password and were given them. We were allowed to pick Mexican limes for our Coronas on our day out and pomegranates from the small tree garden. One of our friends caught up to us the next day. The manager was nice enough to allow him to leave his car on the parking grounds while we went about. I stayed two nights for the rest of the Festival and can say that it was very quiet and peaceful. No bad elements. No notorious night activity. Sort of like quiet out in the woods quiet if that is what you are looking for. (If not, look somewhere else.) I had a good night's sleep both nights. I paid $70/night for a deluxe room. No price gouging. Only I guess you get what you pay for: I initially stayed at the chain motel around the corner at $60/night in an apparently more developed area, but I definitely prefer this one and would stay again. The manager also is nice and speaks English for a change. I think of the place as a unique hole-in-the-wall find of the past. It has a lot of character. It is not your run-in-the-mill motel. You can tell, because the people who run it also are different. I'll by dropping again next year!
